Stories From Workcamp, as told by Doris Whitaker, a homeowner in Lockport, NY:

Dear Reach Workcamps:Crews 28 and 41
My name is Doris Whitaker and I had the privilege of being one of the recipients of the Reach Workcamps projects when they came to Windsor, Maine. The campers and leaders scraped, repaired and painted my garage (or barn as they called it). They are fantastic workers. I am overwhelmed by their generosity.
What a beautiful blessings the Reach campers and leaders were (and are) in my life. I felt God’s love through their work and their lives. Every time I look at the garage, I remember the love and care they gave me in God’s name. They are wonderful!
I had to work part of the week they were here because many people in my workplace were on vacation. I was fortunate because I did come home at lunchtime to share lunch and devotions with the campers. What hearts they have for Jesus. When I was their age, I had a relationship with Christ, but they know how to share His love with others much better than I could.
They were so thoughtful. I had a bench which I often sit on outside and have my morning coffee. It was in very rough shape. Before they left on Friday, they presented me with a new bench that they had built and then they each signed the bench. I love it!
My husband died suddenly of a heart attack three years ago. He ran a small construction company (I’ve sold most of the equipment to pay outstanding bills) and I’ve been trying to keep up with maintenance on the buildings. Needless to say, it has been a challenge. I had started to paint the barn little by little—but hadn’t gotten much done. Reach campers doing this was such a boost to me! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you Reach Workcamps for such a beautiful way to reach out to our community and to show us God’s love through the campers and leaders. Crews 28 and 41

In Christian Love,
Doris Whitaker

P.S. If you have a way to copy this letter to teams 28 and 41, please let them know how much I appreciate them. They are in my prayers.
